First graders began this project by reading “Sky Color” by Peter H. Reynolds and experimenting with watercolor paints to create a big sky. We discussed the parts of a landscape, added a colorful ground and trees to show depth and space. Students added details like shadows, leaves, and even a sparkly “gust of wind.”
